The experience of maternage in psychosis: possibilities in the field of psychosocial care

Abstract

For the purpose of understanding how mothering can be carried out in psychosis, a narrative review was carried out, with a qualitative approach, which contextualizes the milestones in the history of madness in light of the current scenario, more specifically in the field of psychosocial care. Betting on the radicality of the singular word, we discuss the possibilities of care that takes into account important aspects of expanded listening, which can make it easier for the psychotic person to invent particular resources to create a bond with their baby. In this way, we propose to demystify and discuss how a psychotic subject lives and exercises motherhood in his difference, justifying this by the fact that we find a certain scarcity in the literature on the subject. To this end, the contributions of Donald Woods Winnicott and Jacques Marie Émile Lacan were put into dialogue, mainly regarding their common concepts regarding the subjective constitution of being and how the contribution of these authors can contribute to a greater understanding of this experience, providing coordinates for a development of teamwork in mental health treatment, mainly due to the memorable erasure in the care of these citizens by public policies that needs to be recovered.
